A thorough examination by our team at the Leigh Smile Center will determine, based on several factors, whether or not you are a candidate for dental implants. Not every patient case is suitable for implants; however, most patients who have lost teeth can have implants placed successfully. Good health and sufficient bone density and structure are two of the main factors in making that determination. A Consultation will assess and evaluate your dental needs and requirements. The costs involved and the treatment plan will be explained in detail, and any questions or concerns you may have will be answered at that time.
We believe it is advisable to choose a practitioner who has the knowledge and training necessary to perform dental implant treatment. The Leigh Smile Center encourages you to ask questions regarding qualifications, training, success rates, and the length of time the practitioner has been performing implant related treatments. You are also encouraged to compare the costs involved as well as the level of after-care that the practitioner provides, and the availability of that practitioner should complications arise. It is for your own benefit to be an informed consumer; especially where it involves your health or your quality of life. Implant Dentistry is not recognized as a "specialty" field in Dentistry by the Alberta Dental Association and College. There are no Dental Implant "Specialists" in Canada. Dental Implant services at the LEIGH SMILE CENTER are provided by Dr. Leigh, a General Dentist. So as not to confuse patients, Dr. Leigh and his dental surgical team provides Dental Implant services at his Center. Other services are provided by his Associates, Dr. Ken Schuster and Dr. Shideh Pejman (General Dentists). Dr Leigh will be happy to inform you of his experience in Dental Implant services. No Dentist should be reluctant to provide you with that information.
Please contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org for his curriculum vitae and other valuable and pertinent information about Dental Implants.
There are nearly 500,000 Dental Implant services performed each year throughout the world. The health of the patient is a far more important factor than the patient's age. Dental Implants have been placed in patients in their teens and in much older patients in their 80's. New techniques and advancements in the placing of dental implants have allowed the practitioner to augment bone structure in cases where bone was insufficient for placing implants. So, even though you have lost teeth many years ago, or have worn conventional dentures for many years, and have subsequently lost some bone mass, this can be reversed through bone augmentation.

It has been demonstrated through long-term studies that endosseous implants regularly last for periods up to 25 years and more. The effectiveness and durability of dental implants is often determined by the patient's lifestyle. For example, those who smoke, have poor oral hygiene, or grind their teeth, will likely have a lower success rate and shorter implant-life.
During the surgery, the treatment area is anaesthetized in virtually the same way as for other dental, or cosmetic dentistry treatments. Patients will normally experience only mild discomfort after the treatment. This can be controlled by over-the-counter or prescription medication, and antibiotics. In almost all cases, the patient will return to work, or their regular routine, the next day. A regimen of daily mouth care will be prescribed by the staff at the Leigh Smile Center, together with suggestions for nutritional supplements, and diet.
Not necessarily. You can be fitted with a temporary appliance following the Implant Dental Surgery. It will have a very similar appearance to the final prosthesis and will allow you to maintain your normal daily routine.
At the LEIGH SMILE CENTER in Alberta, we believe that your smile is your most important feature. A beautiful, natural-looking smile enhances all of your features. Oral health comes first, but patients want to have a nice smile.
HEALTH CANADA is the regulator for all Dental Implant Products (Implants, Bone Graft Materials, etc) in Canada. I suppose similar to the FDA in the USA. Our Implant Company (Implant Direct Sybron International) as well as our Dental Supplier (Henry Schein) Products are both approved and licensed by Health Canada. These Companies have a Medical Device License authorizing the manufacturing of their products (the products that they sell) in Canada.
Dr. Keith Manning of the Alberta Dental Association + College, in his article "Dental Materials are Safe for Albertans", states: "Health Canada, through the medical devices legislation, regulates the manufacture, importation and sale of dental materials. Manufacturers must apply for a licence authorizing the sale of the device in Canada. Suffice it to say, a medical device licence implies a high level of quality assurance and trust." There can be a significant difference in cost for Dental Implant procedures if different aspects of the procedure are performed by different Dentists. For example, the costs may be lower if the Placing and Restoring of the Dental Implants are done at the same location by one Dentist. There can be a significant difference in the amounts charged by different Dentists for Dental Implant procedures. Since "cost" is a major factor to most patients, we suggest that all potential Implant patients research the Dental facilities who may be performing the procedures to obtain a 'Full Quote'. This quote should include all aspects of the procedure ... not just the placing of the implant or the restoring of the implant. For more information about this qquestion, see the "Dental Implant Fees" page.
It is not necessary to see a Dental "Specialist" to have Dental Implants Placed or Restored. There are no Dental Implant Specialists in Alberta or Canada. The placing and restoring of dental implants is not considered a "specialty" field in Dentistry. Experince is very important. Any Dentist in Alberta, with the proper training and experience, can perform Dental Implant procedures. Potential patients owe it to themselves to seek out a Dentist who has the necessary training and experience to place and restore dental implants. No Dentist in Alberta can claim to be a "Specialist in Dental Implants" or "Specialize in Dental Implants", as this would be false and misleading and a serious violation of the Alberta Dental Association & College's Code of Ethics. See the 4 VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS you should ask of any Dentist who may be performing Dental Implant procedures.
Dr. Leigh will be happy to provide you with a complete breakdown of his qualifications, training and experience in Dental Implant procedures, as well as the number of implants he has placed during his career and his success rate. Click on email@example.com to email for this information.
